A new academic year starts….

By | November 24, 2016

All our children have started back at school this academic year thanks to their sponsors who have continued to support them financially.

We are very grateful to this continued commitment as our children are thriving and progressing so much in school.  They love being there and are so keen to learn all they can.

We are very proud of their achievements both academically and personally and look forward to catching up with them throughout the year.

Rebecca Winder Fine Jewellery

By | September 19, 2016

We were recently contacted by Rebecca Winder to see if she could support the charity by donating from sales of one of her collections, using resources that are ethically and socially responsible.  She has an amazing talent to produce beautiful jewellery that ‘doesn’t cost the earth’.

Check out her website for more details of all products available as well as those that are part of the Mashi Collection.

Closure of the nursery

By | May 18, 2016

Sadly the nursery closed at the end of April.  It was agreed that all the equipment from the building would be distributed to the families including cots, tables, chairs, toiletries.

We really hope that in the near future we will have raised the £7000 to reopen.  These are the running costs for a year and we will be working hard to raise the funds to enable the nursery to continue in this community.

Thank you to everyone who has supported the nursery to date, without you it wouldn’t have been possible.

Updates from Jorge, our volunteer in Ecuador

By | May 3, 2016

Jorge is our main man in Patate who oversees the running of our nursery project.  He is also a fireman in the village.  He went, with his fire service to Perdanales, the epicentre of the earthquake.

Him and his team were there to support the rescue of many people who had been trapped under buildings and rubble.  They were successful in their mission.  Unfortunately, Jorge was himself injured and had to return home but not before he had been instrumental in the recovery mission.

We wish him and his team well and send all of our love.

Devastating Earthquake hits Ecuador

By | April 18, 2016

On Saturday night an Earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale hit the coastal region of Ecuador, with Guayaquil and Manta being worst affected.  Nearly 300 people have died as a result and more than 2000 injured so far.

All those involved with Mashi are safe, Quito felt the quake but no-one was hurt from our project.

Jorge Soria is our volunteer who lives in Patate and is a fireman.  Him and his team have travelled to the coast to assist in anyway they can. He has sent this photo of scenes of the area.

We will update as and when we receive more information.

Our thoughts and best wishes are with all of those who have been affected.

Due to the kindness and generousity of people, we have been able to extend the service until the end of March at this point.  We are very grateful to those who have supported us to date and we hope we can continue with the nursery beyond March.

Closure of nursery

By | October 16, 2015

It is with much sadness and regret that we have to announce our nursery will have to close at the end of the year.  Unfortunately we have not been able to raise the funds needed to continue.  The cost of the nursery is £7000 a year but this has been more and more difficult to find over the past couple of years.

We would really like to thanks those who have been involved in the setting up and running of the nursery over the last 6 years, it has been a great provision for the children and will give them a better start in life.

Are you able to help?  We really want to avoid this closure as the nursery care is so important for the children of the community.  If you feel you can financially support us, please click on the donate button and help us.

Thank you so much

Sarah

“spare some change” ?

By | August 18, 2015

Could you get involved to make sure our nursery continues into 2016? We are asking people to “spare some change”. For the price of a loaf of bread, you can really make a difference. If you can spare some change, just £1, please make a donation by following this link http://www.mashifoundation.org/donate/
We need to raise £7000 to ensure the nursery continues for another year for the 40 children who attend and love being there. We provide care each day while parents go to work in the fields. This is invaluable as children would otherwise be working or in unsafe environments.  we provide three nutritious meals a day, toiletries and basic medication.  The nursery is run by two mothers from the community, a real example of empowerment and ownership as well as partnership working.

Please help us to continue this provision, make a small donation today, thank you.
